Max and I visited the Lake of the Ozarks with a large group of my family on my dad's side. We had a blast swimming, tubing, and playing with younger cousins. We rented a house on a quieter part of the lake, so there wasn't a ton of traffic. If you sat out there long enough, you would see these HUGE fish flopping out of the water. It was a really pretty lake. Our view was SO gorgeous. I hope y'all enjoy the pictures!! On Sunday, Max and I went to see the play The Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare. It was put on my the Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre, which is located in Conway. The English teacher in me found a lot of interest in seeing a performance based off of a play written by Shakespeare. Admission was $10 dollars, and the play lasted about an hour and ten minutes. They modernized some of the language a bit, but overall, it was a great play. The actors did a tremendous job in each of their parts, and they had everyone laughing out loud.
On Saturday, we took a day trip up to the Eleven Point River in Alton, Missouri with some friends. We left town at 8. From Jonesboro, Alton is about a two hour drive. The roads were super curvy and hilly, but thankfully, they were not heavily trafficked roads. We got to Eleven Point Canoe Rental around 10, and we were on the river by 10:30. (Canoes here are $40. That price includes tax and transportation to and from the river. You can choose how many miles you want to float at that price also. It ranges from 8, 12, 14, and 20 miles) We choose to do the 14 mile float instead of the 12 mile float, so we could see two springs. The disappointing part was we missed the first spring, so we paddled an extra two miles for nothing. Eleven Point is absolutely beautiful. The water is cool and smooth. There are a few rough places where the current is strong, but overall, it is a very calm river. Many trees were down from the flooding, and that was the biggest obstacle you had to get around. It felt safer than the spring, because there were not as many huge rocks to avoid and slam against if your canoe flipped. A few miles in, there was rope swing. Well worth stopping and taking a dip. It is freezing, but once you get back in the canoe, it feels amazing. We stopped a few times to rest and eat along some sandbars that no one was on. In the last few miles, we stopped at Boze Mill, which is a spring. This place is absolutely gorgeous. Where you get off is very hidden, so you have to be watching for it. It is a short walk to the spring. The first view of it is amazing. The water is so gorgeous, and then, you step in and freeze to death. The water is sooo cold. When we got back to the river, the water we thought was cold earlier felt like warm pool water. After we got off the river and changed, we ate at Alton Burger Palace, which was a local burger joint. The food was really good and so were the milkshakes. We got back to Jonesboro around 8. It was a long day, but it was super fun. 10/10 recommend checking out the Eleven Point River.
For those of you who know me and Max, you know that we have been together for a long time. Long before we were dating, we were best friends who had people placing bets on when we would finally end up together. We have officially been together for three years now. In the words of Max, sometimes it feels like three months, sometimes it feels like three years. The time has flown by, but the amount of time we have been together has created a sense of stability and safety. I couldn't imagine it any other way. To celebrate three years together, we went to Memphis for the day. We left Jonesboro around 9 so we could get free admission into Dixon Gardens and Gallery. We had fun looking at the pretty gardens and art. Every Saturday from 10am-noon, there is free admission to the gardens and museum. Otherwise, it is $7 dollars a piece for admission, and unless you are super into that stuff, I do not think it is worth that. After we left Dixon Gallery and Gardens, we went and ate at Babalu Tacos and Talupas. It got really good ratings, but the tacos did not sit well with either of us. Plus, it was kind of overpriced in our opinions. Babalu is located in Overton Square. After we ate, we walked around Overton Square, then we headed over to IKEA. Neither of us had ever been in, but we decided to go have a look around. We were pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed looking through the store. It was much larger than we expected. We spent some time on their computers designing a living room, and Max brought out his interior designing skills. Then, we bought a piece of pizza and cinnamon roll from IKEA. It wasn't the best, but for $3 bucks, it was good. After we left IKEA, we went to Shelby Farms. We fell in love with this park and its modern atmosphere when we visited it for the lantern light festival. We walked down by the water and found these oversized wooden sun tanning chairs. Big enough for two, we relaxed down by the water in the sun. After deciding we were sweating enough, we headed back to the car. We headed back to downtown Memphis. We ate at Earnestine and Hazel's, which is considered to be a haunted site. It was originally built as a church, but has been a pharmacy, sundry store, and brothel before becoming this restaurant. Downstairs had limited seating with a pool table. Upstairs was still available for viewing, which is supposedly where the ghosts are. We walked around upstairs. Only a few doors were unlocked, but it was neat to walk around a place and think about the many people that have walked in and out of that place. Many ghost hunters spend the night upstairs hoping to catch something. This place only has one thing on the menu, and that is a soul burger and chips. It was good, but once again, can't quite understand the obsession with them that many Memphis bloggers do. After we ate, we went to the roof of the Peabody. There was a Redbirds game going on, and we could see the scoreboard and pieces of the field from the view. Looking over Memphis, it looks very tired to me. The buildings are worn and old. The Mississippi River was twinkling in the sun, but the town looked like it needed some TLC. It was a really neat view, and I enjoyed having the birds eye vision of the streets and town. Then, we headed over to Beale Street to check out A. Schwabs. It is the only original store left on Beale Street. We went their specifically to check on their soda fountain. We split a chocolate milkshake, and it resembled the Purple Cow to me, in flavor and how it was served. (Check out the straws. They were so cute!!) We walked along Beale Street, and we watched the backflippers, the wannabe children backflippers, and a man paint with spray paint. The spray paint painter was very cool. He had a real talent for it, and what he did was absolutely amazing. Max and I watched him do two different ones, and we were amazed both times. It was incredible. That wraps up our day in Memphis. It was a really good day celebrating three years together! We are already looking forward to our next adventure together, which is Pangburn Fourth of July!
My favorite oil is definitely coconut! So I thought I would share a few of my favorite ways to use it!
1. Makeup remover! That coconut oil is the best way to remove makeup. It even gets waterproof mascara off. It is a dream. It gets off that tough to remove makeup, it is great for sensitive skin, and it helps moisturize your skin. If you need another added plus, you will smell like dreamy coconuts, and who would not want that!! 2. Shaving cream! When heated, coconut oil is a liquid. Get a small bowl and put some in your shower. By the time you get ready to shave, dip some out and lather it on. Your legs will have never been softer! 3. Moisturizer! Every dry path on my skin, I am rubbing in coconut oil. It is great for my sensitive skin, and it helps my skin out! Once again, you smell like a coconut, so who can complain? 4. Tanning oil! I rub some coconut oil on my arms and legs before laying out by the pool. It will help attract that sun to your skin. 5. Chapstick! When my lips get chapped, I dip a Q-tip in my jar and rub some of it on my lips. It tastes like coconuts, and it only moisturizes your lips. Some chapstick makes your lips dry out, so you will keep using it! Not coconut oil! 6. Helpful preventative and healer for sunburns! Coconut oil can help prevent sunburns, and it can take away the sting of an already existing burn! 7. Cooking! When I make popcorn from scratch, I pop it using coconut oil! You cannot taste it, and it is a healthier oil to use! It is also great in smoothies! It clumps in cold, but it adds a little texture to the smoothie. The flavor adds to the tropical flavor of all of my smoothies! All in all, coconut oil is the best oil ever !!! Y'all, RiverFest was the BOMB DIGGITY. I did not think I was one for concerts, but it was so much fun! The main reason we decided to go was to see Billy Currington. We have been obsessed with him for a very long time. When we found out he was performing, we both knew that we had to go. We did not know if we were 100% going until we were buying our tickets at 1 o'clock yesterday, due to rain chances. The drive was pretty easy, and we managed to avoid crazy rush hour traffic for the most part. We ate at Izzy's. When we walked inside, there was like 3 people in there. We saw no staff members. We both looked at each other like what have we gotten ourselves into, but a server came out and served us. The place was kind of a weird style, and the menu had almost anything you could think of on it. The food was really good, and the staff ended up being fantastic! We found a parking spot around 5:30, and we parked at the Heifer International Center, which was almost directly across from the entrance. We got lucky! We exchanged our tickets for armbands, got checked by security, and we were in! It was a hot day! At 6 o'clock, the lineup began with Dylan Scott and John Bellion. We walked down to John Bellion's stage just so we could hear "All Time Low." After that song played, we made our way back to Dylan Scott's stage, and he put on a really good show! He played some of his songs, and he sang his cover to songs. Then, after Dylan Scott, Colt Ford played. Max and I did not care for him very much. He played for about an hour and fifteen minutes. More and more people were crowding in during this concert. Even though the sun was down, we were all packed in like sardines and it was H O T !! Then, my man Billy came on, and it quickly became the best night ever! Even though we were sweating and could barely move without hitting someone, we sang and danced the night away. He played for an hour, and we sang our hearts out for an hour. Max and I both considered ourselves to not be concert people, but I think this concert proved us wrong. We had a great time, and we are already talking about finding another Billy Currington concert to attend!! I asked Max the other day to tell me five things he thought have been keys in our relationship. I was not planning on blogging about it when I asked him, but when he said it, I thought it would be something interesting to share, especially since I have such a cute, thoughtful boyfriend. He even gave me six things instead of five! Below are the six things he listed:
1. Friendship We have been best friends since we were in 8th and 9th grade. For a long time, I have been calling that boy my best friend. Our relationship was built upon the foundation of friendship. We already knew so much about each other, and we already knew each other's mistakes and past relationships. Beginning a relationship was a very easy, natural transition. I had a HUGE crush on him since we met anyway! I truly think the best relationships are built off a friendship. Trust me when I say that when you are dating your best friend, it is like dreaming with your eyes open. 2. Heart I think heart has been a very important factor in our relationship. We have had the heart to stay together even when things are far from optimal. Dating so young can be so much fun, but it is also so hard. We have had to grow up SO much in terms of maturity. Not to mention, we are continually growing as people and making the transition from high school to college. When things get hard, we just try harder. Get ya a guy like Max Dacus, because he is pretty great! 3. Communication Communication is key. Communication is key. Communication is key. If you cannot talk to each other and communicate with each other, what do you have? We try to communicate to each other what we are doing throughout the day or whatever. Communication in general is great. As a couple, you have to be able to clearly let each other know whats going on. Sometimes, technology gets in the way of that, but when we are together, communication is so much better. I think that is more important anyway. Plus, whose communication does not get messed up by text messages. 4. Being open with each other If you guys only knew all the things we knew about each other... Trust me, TMI is an understatement. The ugly, the gross, and the far from pretty, we know it all. Nothing is too much for the other person, and we are too a point that we are not afraid to tell each other anything. That openness has created a trust in our relationship, and it really helps with communication. It is honestly really cool to know that much about a person and still love them to pieces! 5. Trust T R U S T. What is a relationship without it? Max Dacus is the most trustworthy person on this earth. If you tell him something private, it won't go past him. I can trust him with anything. I also trust him to do the best for our relationship. Trust is where it is at people. Get you a man you can trust with your secrets and get you a man you can trust you will not see cuddling with another girl on snapchat. 6. Love We will have been dating for three years on July 1st. Some days, we have to choose to love each other. There are days we honestly just do not like each other. However, in those days, we still choose to love each other. Many things have changed, but one thing that hasn't is our love for each other. Falling in love is easy, but feelings are fleeting. Choosing to saying in love take a huge commitment and a lot of work. Choices is what love is all about. Making the choice to stay in love takes a lot of effort, and many people choose to neglect what happens when the newness wears off, because that is when the work starts. We both must choose to love each other. We have been together for three years, and we started dating when he was 15 and I was 16. We have had to endure a lot changes in each other, but we are still choosing to love each other. Choosing to love when you do not always like the other person has brought us a long way. Hey guys, Sooooo, if you guys know me, you know I am super pale. My grandma tells me it is because I have Scandinavian blood in me. Either way, I get super white in the winter, and I have to stay in the sun a long time to get a tan in the summer. I was always scared to try self tanners, because I did not want one that turned me orange or streaked. I had tried a gradual tanner before, and it did not work at all. That was many years ago. I got brave and decided to start asking some friends what they used. A lot of people recommended the Jergens Natural Glow. When I went to Target, they had a comparable product in Up and Up, which is Target's product line. It was about $2 dollars cheaper, so I decided to try that instead. It has been wonderful! The bottle is 7 ounces, and they have two tones, which are fair to medium and medium to dark. After one use of the fair to medium, I was noticeably darker. I have been using it for about a week now, and I am CONSIDERABLY darker from what I was. It gradually got darker and darker, and it looks very natural. I put it on every night after getting out of the shower, and from what I can tell, showering and shaving does not affect the color as long as you reapply. Not to mention, the lotion is super thick, and it is a skin firmer! You can kill two birds with one stone, because you do not have to moisturize before using this self-tanner. The smell is light, but it does have a smell. I have found by the time I wake up in the morning, the slight smell it had is gone for the most part. In the pictures below, you can see the darkness in my arm compared to my hand (I am still trying to work out how to get my hands tan without darkening my palms at the same time). For $6, this product get a 10/10 recommendation from me. I would love to know what you guys use! Comment below if you use another self tanner! In honor of North Carolina winning the national championship (which was my pick), I thought a throwback was necessary. Three years ago, at a homeschool basketball tournament in Springfield, Missouri, the name Justin Jackson was talked about in every gym and amongst every team. He was a 'must watch' while at the tournament. We happened to be at the same gym at the same time, and I happened to snag a picture with him. Now a North Carolina basketball star, I thought it was cool I saw him play with his homeschool team before he went to North Carolina. Every time my family or I watch him play, we always comment about how we met him once and how cool it is that we are now watching him on our tv. Not many homeschoolers get that opportunity, due to lack of publicity to recruiters. Way to represent the homeschoolers, Justin!
