On Saturday, we took a day trip up to the Eleven Point River in Alton, Missouri with some friends. We left town at 8. From Jonesboro, Alton is about a two hour drive. The roads were super curvy and hilly, but thankfully, they were not heavily trafficked roads. We got to Eleven Point Canoe Rental around 10, and we were on the river by 10:30. (Canoes here are $40. That price includes tax and transportation to and from the river. You can choose how many miles you want to float at that price also. It ranges from 8, 12, 14, and 20 miles) We choose to do the 14 mile float instead of the 12 mile float, so we could see two springs. The disappointing part was we missed the first spring, so we paddled an extra two miles for nothing. Eleven Point is absolutely beautiful. The water is cool and smooth. There are a few rough places where the current is strong, but overall, it is a very calm river. Many trees were down from the flooding, and that was the biggest obstacle you had to get around. It felt safer than the spring, because there were not as many huge rocks to avoid and slam against if your canoe flipped. A few miles in, there was rope swing. Well worth stopping and taking a dip. It is freezing, but once you get back in the canoe, it feels amazing. We stopped a few times to rest and eat along some sandbars that no one was on. In the last few miles, we stopped at Boze Mill, which is a spring. This place is absolutely gorgeous. Where you get off is very hidden, so you have to be watching for it. It is a short walk to the spring. The first view of it is amazing. The water is so gorgeous, and then, you step in and freeze to death. The water is sooo cold. When we got back to the river, the water we thought was cold earlier felt like warm pool water. After we got off the river and changed, we ate at Alton Burger Palace, which was a local burger joint. The food was really good and so were the milkshakes. We got back to Jonesboro around 8. It was a long day, but it was super fun. 10/10 recommend checking out the Eleven Point River.
