Max and I visited the Lake of the Ozarks with a large group of my family on my dad's side. We had a blast swimming, tubing, and playing with younger cousins. We rented a house on a quieter part of the lake, so there wasn't a ton of traffic. If you sat out there long enough, you would see these HUGE fish flopping out of the water. It was a really pretty lake. Our view was SO gorgeous. I hope y'all enjoy the pictures!!

On Sunday, Max and I went to see the play The Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare. It was put on my the Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre, which is located in Conway. The English teacher in me found a lot of interest in seeing a performance based off of a play written by Shakespeare. Admission was $10 dollars, and the play lasted about an hour and ten minutes. They modernized some of the language a bit, but overall, it was a great play. The actors did a tremendous job in each of their parts, and they had everyone laughing out loud.
On Saturday, we took a day trip up to the Eleven Point River in Alton, Missouri with some friends. We left town at 8. From Jonesboro, Alton is about a two hour drive. The roads were super curvy and hilly, but thankfully, they were not heavily trafficked roads. We got to Eleven Point Canoe Rental around 10, and we were on the river by 10:30. (Canoes here are $40. That price includes tax and transportation to and from the river. You can choose how many miles you want to float at that price also. It ranges from 8, 12, 14, and 20 miles) We choose to do the 14 mile float instead of the 12 mile float, so we could see two springs. The disappointing part was we missed the first spring, so we paddled an extra two miles for nothing. Eleven Point is absolutely beautiful. The water is cool and smooth. There are a few rough places where the current is strong, but overall, it is a very calm river. Many trees were down from the flooding, and that was the biggest obstacle you had to get around. It felt safer than the spring, because there were not as many huge rocks to avoid and slam against if your canoe flipped. A few miles in, there was rope swing. Well worth stopping and taking a dip. It is freezing, but once you get back in the canoe, it feels amazing. We stopped a few times to rest and eat along some sandbars that no one was on. In the last few miles, we stopped at Boze Mill, which is a spring. This place is absolutely gorgeous. Where you get off is very hidden, so you have to be watching for it. It is a short walk to the spring. The first view of it is amazing. The water is so gorgeous, and then, you step in and freeze to death. The water is sooo cold. When we got back to the river, the water we thought was cold earlier felt like warm pool water. After we got off the river and changed, we ate at Alton Burger Palace, which was a local burger joint. The food was really good and so were the milkshakes. We got back to Jonesboro around 8. It was a long day, but it was super fun. 10/10 recommend checking out the Eleven Point River.
For those of you who know me and Max, you know that we have been together for a long time. Long before we were dating, we were best friends who had people placing bets on when we would finally end up together. We have officially been together for three years now. In the words of Max, sometimes it feels like three months, sometimes it feels like three years. The time has flown by, but the amount of time we have been together has created a sense of stability and safety. I couldn't imagine it any other way. To celebrate three years together, we went to Memphis for the day. We left Jonesboro around 9 so we could get free admission into Dixon Gardens and Gallery. We had fun looking at the pretty gardens and art. Every Saturday from 10am-noon, there is free admission to the gardens and museum. Otherwise, it is $7 dollars a piece for admission, and unless you are super into that stuff, I do not think it is worth that. After we left Dixon Gallery and Gardens, we went and ate at Babalu Tacos and Talupas. It got really good ratings, but the tacos did not sit well with either of us. Plus, it was kind of overpriced in our opinions. Babalu is located in Overton Square. After we ate, we walked around Overton Square, then we headed over to IKEA. Neither of us had ever been in, but we decided to go have a look around. We were pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed looking through the store. It was much larger than we expected. We spent some time on their computers designing a living room, and Max brought out his interior designing skills. Then, we bought a piece of pizza and cinnamon roll from IKEA. It wasn't the best, but for $3 bucks, it was good. After we left IKEA, we went to Shelby Farms. We fell in love with this park and its modern atmosphere when we visited it for the lantern light festival. We walked down by the water and found these oversized wooden sun tanning chairs. Big enough for two, we relaxed down by the water in the sun. After deciding we were sweating enough, we headed back to the car. We headed back to downtown Memphis. We ate at Earnestine and Hazel's, which is considered to be a haunted site. It was originally built as a church, but has been a pharmacy, sundry store, and brothel before becoming this restaurant. Downstairs had limited seating with a pool table. Upstairs was still available for viewing, which is supposedly where the ghosts are. We walked around upstairs. Only a few doors were unlocked, but it was neat to walk around a place and think about the many people that have walked in and out of that place. Many ghost hunters spend the night upstairs hoping to catch something. This place only has one thing on the menu, and that is a soul burger and chips. It was good, but once again, can't quite understand the obsession with them that many Memphis bloggers do. After we ate, we went to the roof of the Peabody. There was a Redbirds game going on, and we could see the scoreboard and pieces of the field from the view. Looking over Memphis, it looks very tired to me. The buildings are worn and old. The Mississippi River was twinkling in the sun, but the town looked like it needed some TLC. It was a really neat view, and I enjoyed having the birds eye vision of the streets and town. Then, we headed over to Beale Street to check out A. Schwabs. It is the only original store left on Beale Street. We went their specifically to check on their soda fountain. We split a chocolate milkshake, and it resembled the Purple Cow to me, in flavor and how it was served. (Check out the straws. They were so cute!!) We walked along Beale Street, and we watched the backflippers, the wannabe children backflippers, and a man paint with spray paint. The spray paint painter was very cool. He had a real talent for it, and what he did was absolutely amazing. Max and I watched him do two different ones, and we were amazed both times. It was incredible. That wraps up our day in Memphis. It was a really good day celebrating three years together! We are already looking forward to our next adventure together, which is Pangburn Fourth of July!
